I’m very interested in exploring opportunities for collaboration with the National Health Service (NHS). For some time now, I’ve working with the NHS West of Scotland Specialist Virology Centre.
Together we’ve worked on a project using phylogenetic techniques methods to integrate whole genome sequencing (WGS) data with clinical and epidemiological data. In addition to determining the advantages of WGS for viral characterisation of seasonal influenza, we are interested in the viral factors affecting disease severity and the contribution of intra-subtype reassortment to the evolution and epidemiology of human influenza viruses.
More recently, we’ve been investigating the benefits associated with the introduction of influenza point-of-care testing in the Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
